About the project

According to proverb each time you taste something you never tasted before, you earn seven more days to … do whatever it is you would do if you had more time.

Taste a bitter melon and earn a chance to lay on the couch with a stack of romance novels.

Dip your fork in cockscombs risotto and finally get to work on that screenplay.

Slurp up garlic ice cream and set aside some time for trumpet classes.

1 Bite 7 Days started at the Renegade Craft Fair in Williamsburg, Brooklyn in 2008, as a free tasting booth where guests could taste something unusual and then share what they would do with the free time they earned.

1 Bite 7 Days will soon be an iPhone app and online community where contributors can document all the unusual foods they experience and build a bucket list with every new taste, no matter where they happen — on the street, at home, at a restaurant, with friends or solo.

As a contributor, you’ll:

  • Snap and share photos of the unusual foods you eat
  • Tag the foods — Where did you eat this? What did it taste like? Would you eat it again? Do you have a recipe for it to share?
  • Build your bucket list as you consider how you will spend the free time you earn with each bite
  • Share all this with the 1 Bite community, inspiring others to taste new foods and explore new cultures
  • Build a diary — through photos and text — of bites taken and time earned, of food adventures, and plans for how you want to spend your free time
  • Discover new foods and recipes from other contributors to challenge your own eating adventures

By contributing, together, we’ll build:

  • a community that encourages and rewards adventurous eating
  • an archive of interesting foods and recipes from divergent cultures
  • and a library of dreams or buckets lists reflecting how we spend, or wish we spent, our time.

1 Bite 7 Days is a completely new avenue for us all to experience food. Stay tuned!

We’re looking for designers and developers right now. Let’s discuss it over pickled vegetable pizza. Email: heathermenicucci AT gmail DOT com.
